Daily Itinerary

1. Day 1

   Barcelona

   Spain

Barcelona is the city where Roman history, Gothic grandeur, and Gaudí's delirious Modernisme collide in a Mediterranean coastal capital of astonishing energy and beauty. The Sagrada Família — still under construction after 140 years — continues its audacious ascent toward completion, while the Gothic Quarter's Roman-era foundations and the Passeig de Gràcia's extraordinary concentration of Modernisme masterpieces reward days of exploration. For a complete sensory experience, lose an afternoon in the covered labyrinth of La Boqueria market before descending to the waterfront for Catalan seafood at its finest. May through June and September through October offer the most pleasant weather; the city connects directly to Paris by overnight train.

2. Day 2

   Palma de Mallorca

   Spain

Palma de Mallorca announces itself with one of the most spectacular Gothic cathedrals in the world — La Seu, its honey-coloured sandstone buttresses rising directly from the bay, its interior modified by Antoni Gaudí and illuminated by the world's largest Gothic rose window. The old town behind it is a quarter of Arab baths, Renaissance palaces converted into boutique hotels, and the Passeig del Born — a plane-tree-shaded promenade where Balearic life conducts itself with unhurried grace. The local ensaïmada pastry and fresh sobrasada sausage from the island's black pigs are essential breakfast rituals. Visit May, June, or September: warm, brilliant, and measurably calmer than the July–August peak.

3. Day 3

   Mahon

   Spain

Mahón commands one of the Mediterranean's deepest natural harbours, a fjord-like inlet on Menorca that captivated British admirals, Phoenician traders, and Roman generals in turn — its Georgian townhouses and gin distilleries speaking eloquently to centuries of contested heritage. Explore the clifftop old town's baroque Santa María church with its 3,200-pipe organ, then cross the water to the imposing fortress of La Mola for sweeping harbour views. The island's prized caldereta de langosta, a slow-simmered lobster stew, is best savoured at the fishing village of Fornells. Visit between May and June or September and October for warmth without the summer crowds.

4. Day 4

   At Sea

5. Day 5

   Cagliari

   Italy

Cagliari, Sardinia's sun-drenched capital overlooking the Gulf of Angels, has absorbed three thousand years of Phoenician, Carthaginian, Roman, Pisan, and Spanish ambitions into a layered and deeply compelling Mediterranean city — where the flamingo-fringed salt lagoons stretching to the city's western edge create one of Europe's most surreal urban vistas. The Castello quarter's medieval ramparts enclose a cathedral, Pisan towers, and panoramic terraces that survey the entire city and coastline, while the Marina district below offers some of the finest bottarga pasta and fresh tuna in Italy. Visit May through September for beach perfection; the prehistoric Nuraghe Su Nuraxi at Barumini, a UNESCO Wonder, is an hour's drive north.

6. Day 6

   Tunis

   Tunisia

Tunis in Tunisia is a distinctive cruise destination that rewards curious travelers with authentic cultural encounters and natural beauty. Don't miss the local markets and the surrounding landscapes that extend the experience beyond the port itself. The most favorable visiting conditions prevail October through April, when cooler temperatures and lower humidity create ideal conditions. Cruise lines including Emerald Yacht Cruises feature this port on their most compelling itineraries. Whether you have a few hours or a full day, the port rewards exploration at every pace and in every direction.

7. Day 7

   Porto Empedocle, Italy

   Italy

Porto Empedocle is Sicily’s gateway to the Valley of the Temples—a UNESCO ridge of seven Doric masterpieces including the extraordinarily preserved Temple of Concordia, rivaling anything in Greece. Must-dos include dawn visits to the Valley of the Temples, exploring Camilleri’s Montalbano country, and breakfast granita with brioche. Visit March through June or September through November for comfortable temperatures; evening visits offer illuminated temple views against the Mediterranean sky.

8. Day 8

   Valletta

   Malta

Valletta, Europe's smallest capital, is a fortress city of exceptional grandeur raised from bare limestone in just fifteen years after the Knights of St. John repelled the great Ottoman siege of 1565 — its rigid Renaissance grid of sun-drenched streets concealing a density of baroque palaces, gilded oratories, and subterranean World War II shelters unrivaled anywhere in the Mediterranean. The Grand Harbour, framed by golden bastions plunging into startlingly blue water, offers one of the most dramatically photogenic arrivals in the world for arriving vessels. Spring and autumn deliver the most comfortable temperatures for exploring this UNESCO-listed gem.

9. Day 9

   Taormina

   Italy

Taormina is a cliffside Sicilian jewel 200 meters above the Ionian Sea, featuring an ancient Greek theater with Mount Etna as its backdrop, the exquisite Isola Bella bay, and some of Sicily's finest cuisine. Must-dos include a performance at the Teatro Antico, the cable car to Isola Bella, and tasting Etna volcanic wines. April through June and September through October offer ideal temperatures.

10. Day 10

    Sorrento

    Italy

Sorrento is a clifftop jewel on southern Italy's Sorrentine Peninsula, perched sixty meters above the Bay of Naples with sweeping views of Vesuvius and Capri. Visitors should not miss the gnocchi alla sorrentina at a family-run trattoria in the old quarter, nor the short excursion along the Amalfi Coast to Positano and Ravello. The ideal season stretches from late April through mid-October, when warm Mediterranean light illuminates the tufa cliffs and the famed local lemons reach their most fragrant peak.

11. Day 11

    Casamicciola Terme

    Italy

12. Day 12

    Civitavecchia, Rome

    Italy

Rome's ancient maritime gateway since the Emperor Trajan commissioned its harbour in 106 AD, Civitavecchia is the natural prologue to the Eternal City — just seventy minutes southeast by express rail. The port's Renaissance fortress, designed in part by Michelangelo, anchors a working waterfront that has welcomed travellers for millennia. Beyond Rome's unmissable monuments, consider an afternoon in the Civitavecchia thermal baths, drawing on mineral waters prized since antiquity. Spring and autumn offer the ideal balance of mild weather and manageable crowds for exploring the capital's layered history.

13. Day 13

    Amalfi

    Italy

Amalfi is the former maritime republic that gave its name to Italy's most celebrated coastline, where the Arab-Norman cathedral, medieval paper mills, and whitewashed buildings cascading to the Tyrrhenian Sea create the definitive image of Italian coastal beauty. Visit April through June via Windstar or Azamara for the Cloister of Paradise and the coastline that has been the world's standard for scenic perfection.

14. Day 14

    Capri

    Italy

Capri is a legendary limestone island rising from the Bay of Naples, celebrated since Roman antiquity for its dramatic cliffs, the ethereal Blue Grotto, and an atmosphere of effortless Mediterranean elegance. Visitors should not miss the Grotta Azzurra's cobalt light show and the sunset view of the Faraglioni from the Piazzetta's café tables. The island is magnificent year-round, though late April through June offers ideal conditions — warm days without peak-summer crowds, wildflowers blanketing the cliff paths, and crystalline waters already inviting enough for a swim off the rocks at Marina Piccola.

15. Day 15

    Sorrento

16. Day 16

    Gaeta

    Italy

Gaeta is a fortified promontory town on Italy's Tyrrhenian coast between Rome and Naples, where two millennia of strategic importance have left a medieval old quarter of castle ruins, Romanesque churches, and the dramatic Montagna Spaccata cleft in the cliff face. Must-dos include the Split Mountain sanctuary, tasting tiella gaetana octopus pie and local olives, and hiking Monte Orlando for views across the Pontine Islands. Visit May, June, or September for warm seas and coastal light without peak crowds.

17. Day 17

    Porto Cervo

    Italy

Porto Cervo is the jewel of Sardinia's Costa Smeralda, a purpose-built luxury village where world-class sailing, pristine emerald beaches, and ancient Nuragic archaeology coexist against a backdrop of sculpted granite coastline. Visit from May through October, with June and September offering the ideal balance of Mediterranean warmth and refined exclusivity.

18. Day 18

    Bonifacio

    France

Bonifacio is a dramatically cliff-perched medieval citadel at Corsica's southern tip, where Genoese ramparts tower above a fjord-like natural harbour in the turquoise Strait of Bonifacio. Visitors should descend the vertiginous Escalier du Roi d'Aragon carved into the limestone cliffs and take a boat excursion to the pristine Lavezzi archipelago nature reserve for world-class snorkelling among sculpted granite formations. The ideal window is June or September, when the Mediterranean light is at its most luminous and the narrow streets of the haute ville remain blissfully uncrowded.

19. Day 19
